Shana, offering therapy North Carolina is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSWA) with advanced training in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International. She is EMDR-trained and is currently pursuing certification in both EMDR and perinatal mental health (PMH-C).

Shana is passionate about supporting individuals through pregnancy, postpartum, and parenthood. She understands this stage of life brings a wide range of emotions—some expected, others more complex—and approaches each person’s experience with warmth and empathy.

Through her own journey, Shana has experienced the challenge of balancing personal identity with the demands of parenthood. She understands what it’s like to feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of how to be the parent you want to be—and how essential the right support is to feel seen, confident, and whole again.

Shana creates a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and supported. Whether you’re grieving, preparing for pregnancy, adjusting to postpartum life, or facing the everyday ups and downs of parenting, she is here to walk alongside you—helping you process, grow, and meet yourself with patience and self-acceptance.

She specializes in perinatal mental health, and has a heart for working with clients who are building their families through both biological and non-biological means. Meet Katlyn

Meet Katlyn, Student Intern at Well Roots Counseling

Katlyn is a Clinical Mental Health Counseling intern with specialized training in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International.

She recognizes the many twists and turns that come with building a family and supports individuals through it all — from fertility struggles, to pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and life after bringing a child home.

No two journeys into parenthood are the same. Katlyn provides support that honors each person’s unique experience.

Her own journey into motherhood has shaped her perspective in deep and meaningful ways. After experiencing pregnancy loss, Katlyn became a mother to two biological children and two stepchildren. That loss brought fear and uncertainty that quietly followed her into her next pregnancies — emotions she now knows are common, yet often unspoken. She also knows firsthand the weight of postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety, and how hard those seasons can be.

Katlyn’s goal is to be a steady, non-judgmental source of support for parents who are struggling. Parenthood can feel lonely and heavy at times, but support is available. Katlyn is here to walk alongside you, wherever you are in your journey.

Meet Elizabeth

Meet Elizabeth, founder of Well Roots Counseling and a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with a Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C). Elizabeth is committed to supporting women through some of life’s most vulnerable and challenging moments. She founded Well Roots Counseling to create a space where women feel seen, heard, and supported.

Having personally experienced pregnancy loss and infertility, Elizabeth understands the emotional rollercoaster of IVF, the anxiety of the "two-week wait," and the silent grief that can come with trying to grow your family. Her own journey has shaped her passion for walking alongside women who are carrying the weight of loss while trying to keep up with everyday life.

Elizabeth also works with mothers navigating the complex and often overwhelming realities of motherhood—from the pressure to be perfect, to the exhaustion of being constantly "on," touched out, and running on little sleep. She understands how quickly “mom rage,” stress, and burnout can take over, especially when we feel like we’re supposed to have it all together.

As a specialist in maternal mental health, Elizabeth brings warmth, empathy, and evidence-based care to her work. Using a thoughtful blend of Somatic Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy, and Tholage Neuropsychotherapy, she helps clients reconnect with themselves and their inner resources.

Elizabeth believes healing begins with our relationship with ourselves—and that this foundation shapes how we show up as mothers, partners, and in all areas of life. With her guidance, women can hold space for both the grief and the growth, the pain and the possibility.

Enhanced Creativity and Productivity

Engaging in therapy can help individuals unblock mental barriers or address underlying anxieties that hinder their creative processes or work productivity. By understanding and addressing these barriers, individuals often find they can think more freely, approach problems with fresh perspectives, and become more productive in both personal and professional endeavors.

Improved Physical Health

The mind-body connection is powerful. Addressing emotional and psychological stressors can lead to tangible physical benefits. For instance, reducing anxiety and stress through therapy can help lower blood pressure, improve sleep, and boost the immune system. Additionally, therapy can support individuals in addressing behaviors that impact physical health, such as overeating, smoking, or neglecting self-care.

Enhanced Mindfulness and Presence

Many therapeutic approaches, especially those incorporating mindfulness-based techniques, can help individuals become more present in their daily lives. This heightened awareness can lead to a deeper appreciation of life's moments, improved focus, and a more profound connection to one's surroundings and loved ones.

Personal Growth and Self-Actualization

Beyond addressing specific issues or challenges, therapy can be a journey of personal growth. It provides a space for introspection, self-discovery, and the exploration of one's values, desires, and goals. Over time, this can lead individuals closer to achieving self-actualization, where they realize their potential and live in alignment with their true selves.
